On January 15, 1930, he was born in Pune, Maharashtra, India. He began his career as a director's assistant on Guru Dutt's films like Pyaasa (1957) and Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959). His first film, Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, was a critical and financial triumph released in 1963. Saajan (1966), Baharon Ke Sapne (1967), Manzil (1969), and Aakrosh (1969) are just a few of the films he went on to create (1980). For producing Aakrosh, he received the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
Also, he received a nomination for Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam and Aakrosh for the Filmfare Award for Best Film. Some of the films produced by Devi Dutt are Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1963), Saajan (1966), Baharon Kee Sapne (1967), Manzil (1969), and Aakrosh (1980).
