Prem Prakash Modi

Prem Prakash Modi is a director who works in Hindi film industry primarily. Based in Kolkata, West Bengal he is also an actor and a writer. Prem was born on 17thJuly 1968, in Nunihat, Jharkhand. Currently residing in Kolkata, he was born to Mr. Parmeswar Lal Modi who was a small businessman in Nunihat. Prem completed his studies from church school Beldih in Jamshedpur and did his graduation from Bhagalpur University.

After completing his graduation, he moved to Kolkata in search of a job and worked at Howrah gases Ltd. He worked there for ten years as an accounts assistant. As his interest was always in acting since very early age, he joined a theatre and left his job. Later on, he became a full- time professional actor and started working in theatre, serials, and movies. Some movies in which he has acted are Antarmahal that released in 2005, Sixer of 2001, Gumshuda and BBD that released in 2010.

He worked as an actor for quite a long period. While working in movies, he liked the concept of working behind the camera and directing pictures. Inspired by this he decided to shift himself behind the camera and began to assist various directors. His debut movie as an assistant director was with Gul Bahadur Singh under CFSI productions titled the goal. The movie starred Irfan Khan and even received best children’s film award and special international jury prize.

This movie was appreciated nationally as well as internationally. Prem has also assisted several directors internationally who are well known and noted all over.

After working as an assistant director, Prem started his career solely as a director in 2013 with the film Arjun- Kalimpong E Sitaharan. It is a Bengali feature. He has also directed over 300 episodes of musical and fictional series and has made several documentaries, promotional films for the government of India as well. He has even tried his hand in writing and has written the storyline and lyrics for various songs of the picture Sixer.

He has written dialogues for the movie Antarmahal too. While performing in the theatre, he has won the award for best actor by the government of West Bengal.
