Shibu Mitra was born on 25th March 1948 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He is an Indian film director and producer. He works preferably for the Hindi film industry. He took birth in a typical Bengali family to SureshChandra, who is a lawyer and Suruchi Mitra, who is the principal of a school.

He has two more brothers who are both in the field of law as their father. The only son who paved his way into a new career was Shibu. He did his primary and secondary education in his hometown. Then he took admission in film and television institute of India (FTII), Pune, Maharashtra, India. Shibu started his career in the year 1972 and ended in the year 2001.

He began with Bindiya Aur Bandook in the year 1972. Then he did Shatranj Ke Mohre in the year 1974. In the same year, he directed Khoon Ki Keemat. In the next year 1975, he came up with Zorro. Later he did many films like Shankar Dada in 1976, Aakhri Goli in 1977, Raakhi Ki Saugandh in 1979, and many more. Then in the year 1980, he directed two films Paanch Qaidi and Maan Gaye Ustaad. In the next year, he did Sumbandh.

Again in the year 1983, he got two movies too direct, which were Mujhe Vachan Do and Humse Na Jeeta Koi. For the next year, i.e., 1984, he got three movie consecutively named Yaadon Ki Zanjeer, Raja Aur Rana, and Inteha Insaaf Main Karoonga. Then in the year 1985, he got two directorial films Durga and Maa Kasam. In the next year, he made Ilzaam. He created hattrick with Sitapur Ki Geeta, Kaun Kitney Pani Mein, and Aag Hi Aag.

Then he made two movies Gunahon Ka Faisla and Paap Ki Duniya. Later, he made four more films Paanch Papi, Meri Zabaan, Kasam Vardi Ki, and Aakhri Gulam. He again made a hattrick in the year 1990 with Badnaam, Aaj Ke Shahenshah, and Naaka Bandi. In the very next year 1991, he made Veerta. In the year 1992, he made Priya. Then he came near the ending of his 19s in 1994 in did Prem Shakti, in 1996 he made Jaggannath, and in 1998 he directed Zanjeer, which completed his 19s. Later he entered into his 20s, he thought to give his career an end. His last directorial film was Kasam in the year 2001.
