Sidharth Srinivasan

Sidharth Srinivasan is an Indian filmmaker, director, screenwriter, and producer based in New Delhi. Srinivas was interested in filmmaking at a young age and decided on the profession as a student at Rishi Valley School, a boarding school in Andhra Pradesh. In 1997, he graduated with an Economics degree and began his journey as an apprentice of filmmaker Kumar Sahani, winner of the National Award in 1972. The film was India’s first digital feature film and dealt with controversial and unique topics, leading to its ban by Indian censor boards. However, it was screened at film festivals internationally and won many awards. In 2007, owing to complications in producing and releasing an already complete Amavas (2005), Srinivasan established his independent label, Reel Illusion Films. He directed and produced PaironTalle (Soul of Sand), which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2010. It was released in India in 2012 at the Director’s Rare screening slot at PVR cinemas. Global Film Initiative acquired the film for release in the USA and Canada. He also produced and directed Kriya (2018), co-produced by British filmmakers Andy Starke and Pete Tombs. The artistic horror film represented India at 2020’s virtual Fantasia International Film Festival. In 2015, Srinivasan also directed a documentary, Bahurupiya (Wearer of Faces), nominated in 2016 at the Mumbai International Film Festival and the EBS International Documentary Festival.
