Born on the 5th of December in the year 1974, in the quaint headquarters of Motihari, Bihar, Ravish Kumar was brought up here and did his schooling in Loyola High School, after which he moved to the metro city of Delhi for his college education. Today, he is an alumnus of the University of Delhi, where he completed his bachelor’s degree, and that of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, from where he attained his post-graduate degree in Journalism and Communication.

He also pursued a masters in philosophy at the time, where he met the Bengali beauty, NayanaDasgupta. The two fell and love and married, despite Kumar’s family’s staunch opposition to the match. It was perhaps meant to be, as Ravish Kumar soon entered the world of news and communication, and insists that his lovely wife was the inspiration he sought for most of his most famous works.

Today, Kumar is a TV news anchor, writer, and journalist and covers Indian society, politics, and social issues as his main topics on and off screen. He is currently the senior executive editor of NDTV India, and a host of some key programs on the channel that have a wide audience throughout the country, such as Hum Log Hum Log was the first soap opera to be telecasted >> Read More... and Ravish Ki Report. Kumar’s accomplishments do not end here.

He has a stellar reputation on Indian TV, but an equally stellar reputation in the world of the written word. He has penned the nationwide best-seller, The Free Voice – On Democracy, Culture, and the Nation. His work in the field of journalism, however, is not all rainbows and ponies.

In early April 2018, Kumar began receiving death threats from anonymous callers, through other means of social media as well, including Whatsapp messaging, and Facebook. The alleged abusers were later caught and when asked as to why they were targeting Kumar and pressing death threats against him, they allegedly stated that they had heard Kumar making a statement wherein he took the side of a rapist in a Delhi case a few months ago.

While Kumar staunchly disagreed to ever having made that kind of statement, the death threats did not stop easily – thus is the life of a reporter and journalist; he is always in the middle of the crossfire, and in a risky situation that could go awry at any given time. However, it is Kumar’s decision to stay put in his position so he may bring justice to the society and all that has gone awry with the system.

Thus, it is no wonder that Ravish Kumar has been the object of affection for almost all literary and communication awards being given out to budding journalists and writers. He has received the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Award for Hindi Journalism and Creative Literature in the year 2010 from the President of India. He has been called the “best journalist” of 2015 by the Mumbai Press Club.

So on and so forth, he has won, and will continue to win, many more awards in his field, as he is one of a kind. His personality is a strong one, and whether one agrees with his views or not, it is safe to say that one can definitely never ignore Kumar’s point of view on a particular matter. Born to stand out, this young journalist is an inspiration to all writers and youngsters out there to stay true to your country, be honest, and spread peace and prosperity among the nation.
