Early life

Moin Akhtar was born in Mumbai but after partition, his family migrated to Pakistan. Akhtar was a linguist as he knew various languages English, Sindhi, Bengali, Punjabi, Memon, Pashto, Urdu, and Gujarati. He aimed at avoiding vulgarity in his humour.

Career

At the age of 13 Moin started his acting career as a child actor. He acted in various plays in Theater. Akhtar's strength was his sense of humour. He made his television debut in 1966, on a show aired on PTV to celebrate the first defense day of Pakistan. He then tried his hand at stand-up comedy by using his quick wit and dynamic sense of humour. In 1966-67, he mimicked the Hollywood actor Anthony Quinn and the then President John F. Kennedy's speech.Since then he continued performing several comedy roles and later found the perfect company in Anwar Maqsood and Bushra Ansari. Later, Akhtar took the risk to play the character of Rosy, a female character which was an adoption of the Hollywood show Tootsie. This risk of his proved to be an enormous success for him and the critics appreciated him for this performance. He also hosted various talk shows and game shows. One of the most popular talk shows was Loose talks in which Akhtar presented himself to be a different character in over 400 shows. He also hosted the Pakistani version of Who wants to be a billionaire? Kya aap ban ai Enge crorepati? He also gave a few hits by singing some of the melodious songs like ' chorr ke jane wale', ' choat jigar pe khayi hai', ' did ro Raha Hai' among others. Death Akhtar suffered a heart attack which proved to be fatal.

He left behind his wife, three daughters and two sons. His cremation ceremony happened in Tauheed Masjid. Thousands of people came and attended his funeral. The very famous wax museum in London, Madame Tussauds has expressed its wish to establish a wax statue of Moin Akhtar. If it gets made, then Moin would be the first Pakistani entertainer to have a wax statue. Awards and Nominations Moin was honoured by The first Indus Drama Awards, 2005. Then in 2010, he was presented with Pride of Performance. In 2011, Moin bagged the Sitara-i-Imtiaz award.
