Randhir Kapoor

Randhir Kapoor was born on the 15th of February 1947, to Bollywood’s Kapoor family. He married Babita, who is also an actor in Bollywood, in 1971 and has two daughters: KarismaKapoor and KareenaKapoor. His first appearance was in the 1955 film Shree 420, and the 1959 film Do Ustad.

These were, however, films in which he was a child artist. In 1968, he became an assistant director for the movie Jhuk Gaya Aasman. In 1971, he made his acting and directorial debut with the film Kaln Aaj Aur Kal. This movie turned out to be average at the box office. However, his next three films (Jeet, Raampur Ka Lakshman, and JawaniDiwani.)were all hits at the box office. From 1972 to 1975, he had an equal number of flops and hits at the box office. From 1976 till 1981, he had back to back hit movies. However, post 1981 he began to experience flops and average performers at the box office. In the year 1991, the blockbuster movie Henna was directed and produced by him.

This film won him a Filmfare Award for Best Director. Post-1991, he has produced (PremGranth, AaAbLautChalen) and acted (Mother, Armaan, Housefull and Action Replayy Click to look into! >> Read More... ) in some movies. Babita and Randhir got married on the 6th of November 1971 after performing together in Kal Aaj Aur Kal.

They separated from 1988 till 2007. The reason behind 19 years of this separation was the differences that had arisen between them after Randhir faced a career downfall post-1983.They had KarishmaKapoor in the year 1974 and KareenaKapoor in the year 1980. Although Randhir was against the idea of his daughters joining the Bollywood film industry, he eventually got used to the idea and is now very supporting of their careers.
