He lived in Karachi, Sindh Pakistan. He did his post-graduation from the University of Sindh, Jamshoro. He began his career from the Hyderabad radio station, where he worked as a radio presenter. He earned accolades for his acting in many plays, especially Chand Grahan, Dairy, Ranch, Bund Gulab and Mohabbat Khawab Ki Surat. He acted in all medium of entertainment from radio to television. In all his career he did many serials. Some of his famous television plays are Ranch, Bund Gulab, Chand Grahan, Dairy, Deewarain, Jungle, Zeenat, Kali Dhoop, Marvin, Mohabbat Khawab Ki Surat, Mannat, Tapish, Teesra Kinara, Zohar Baad, Dhoni, Kanton Sey Aagey, Muhib Sheedy, Ilzam, Muskarahat, Salakhain. He was a member of the Pakistan People’s Party. He also contested the general election in October 2002 from NA-253, Karachi but lost. He was his party’s artistic committee and worked to promote art and culture. Shafi Muhammad Shah involved in social activities. On March 2004, Shafi joined Pakistan-based UNICEF and WHO to help alarm the parents of minor children about taking vaccination against Polio. Shafi Muhammad also won many awards in his lifetime. In 1985, he received the best actor award from Pakistan Television. Shafi won best actor Drama series in the 1st Indus Drama Awards 2005 for Maa Aur Mamta (Mann). President of Pakistan awarded him the ‘Pride of Performance Awards’. Shafi Muhammad Shah died on November 17, 2007, at his home. His funeral prayers held at Imambargah Yasreb in the Defense Housing Authority. The cause of death was liver failure.
