Vikram Thakor

Vikram Thakor is a ‘Gujju’ superstar. There is no better way to put it than that. He is a superstar among the Gujarati community! An actor, singer, and multitalented superstar, Vikram has a the charisma to make it big! Vikram was born in Fatehpura, near Gandhinagar, in Gujarat and spent most of his childhood there. He has a brother too, by the name of Pratik Yogi. However, despite being popular among the Gujarati community, he has also indulged himself with Bhojpuri cinema. His childhood years were divided in two distinct halves. One half of his time was spent learning different instruments. In fact, by ten he’d already started performing the flute on stage! The second half of his childhood was spent admiring his father Melaji Thakor, who was also a folk singer.

Apart from being a great folk singer, his father was also a Kirtan singer. Kirtan is a form of singing which involves narration or story-telling. It’s a form of performance art with its roots in religion. By the time his twentieth birthday came around, he’d already established himself as a performer and already started gathering fans. However, unlike most stars who always dream about getting into the industry, Thakor was very reluctant. It took a lot of convincing from his family and friends to tell him he was talented enough for the silver screen.

His finally gave in. ‘Ek Var Piyu Ne Malva Aavje’, a 2006 Gujarati rom-com was his debut flick and it ended up a decent commercial success. After his initial success, and a little more convincing from his friends, Vikram Thakor decided to take acting up as a career. He later went on to work in several Gujarati movies, most of which targeted the rural population. Vikram has acted in eight movies to date, all of which have been hits at the box office! Six of his films earned a profit of three crores, an impressive feat for an anonymous actor. But apart from being an actor he’s a musician too. In fact, in his words, he’s a “musician at heart”! Working with his long-time friend Vimal, he’s also composed, written and produced a number of devotional songs, anthems, and bhajans.

However, not everything is hunk-dory in the artist’s life. His reputation is marred by controversy where he was thrown under the bus by Paresh Patel, a Gujarati film director. He accused him of having scammed him for thirty lakh rupees. The case is still ongoing, but Vikram is confident it’s all just a big misunderstanding. Vikram Thakor, as you’ll ask any member of the Gujarati community, is a beloved star and more importantly- a fan favorite He’s also one of the busiest, with a plethora of projects lined up for this upcoming season. Rest assured, the Gollywood star does know how to keeps his audience entertained!
