She made her debut as an actress in 1941 to her final role in the film Water, 2005. She had an active career of 60 years which is a legendary mark in itself. And in her 60 years old career, she did 160 films. In the early 1940s, she came up as a lead actress but after a certain point of time, settled for villainous or comic roles.

Very few people know that Manorama’s real name was Erin Issac Daniels. Her mother was Irish and her father was an Indian Christian, so she was half-Irish. Her father was a professor in an engineering college. Manorama was not only a brilliant actress but also a marvelous and trained classical dancer and singer. During 1940s, Manorama was a stage artist in Red Cross, Lahore . She was nine years old when Roop K. Shorey spotted her at a school concert in Lahore. That was the moment when her destiny was totally changed, and she was unaware about that.

Her career began with Khazanchi (1941), as a child artist under the screen name ‘Manorama.’ This name was given to her by Roop K. Shorey himself. After this, she grew into a highly paid actress in Lahore. After the partition of India and Pakistan, Manorama shifted to Mumbai. She was worried about her career as one thing was wandering in her mind that maybe everything was over and she needed to begin from the starting point. But destiny was on her side. Actor, Chandramohan recommended Manorama to the producers after witnessing her previous works. Then she worked in the movie ‘Ghar Ki Izzat’ (1948), in which she played the role of Dilip Kumar’s sister.

After several years of her marriage, she got divorced from Haksar. She suffered a stroke in 2007, though she recovered but suffered from speech slurring and other complications. She died on February 15, 2008, in Charkop, Mumbai. Her memories will be cherished in her mesmerizing performances in every film.
