Leela Desai (aka Lila Desai) was an actress who worked in the Indian Film Industry. She was born in Newark in New Jersey and was raised in India. Her mother was a musician and belonged to Bihar whereas her father was a Gujarati medical practitioner. Her career was short and spanned nearly two decades. She went to Morrice College in Lucknow to study music. She trained under Sohan Lal in Indian classical dancing. In 1946, she even worked as a choreographer in the movie Dev Kanya. She first acted in the movie Bidyapati as Devdasi in 1937. She owned a property in Darjeeling named Lily’s Cottage which was her mother’s abode till her death. Her filmography includes
