Nargis was born on June 1st, 1929 in Calcutta Bengal province. She was called as Fatima Rashid but known by her screen name Nargis.  She was a great Indian film actress. She made her debut on screen as a young child in TALASH-E-HAQ at the age of 14th in 1935, but her acting career began with TAMMANA film. During the period from the 1940s to the 1960s, she appeared in many films and some of them were critically appreciated films and in many of the movies, she shared screen space with the veteran actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor. 

She was praised for her best-known roles was that of character RADHA in Mother India and also, this film yielded huge amount at the box-office. She won the Best Actress award at the Film Fare Awards. Nargis married her co-star, actor Sunil and she finally determined to quit the film industry. She joined her hands with her husband, and they have formed the Arts Cultural Troupe, which select most crucial actors and singers at the time and held many stage shows in the border areas.

She became the first patron of uncoordinated person Society of India and her Predominant work with the organization brought her recognition as a high social welfare.
