Vimi was a Punjabi girl who got noticed by music composer Ravi and she introduced to film maker B R Chopra who had cast Vimi in his film Hamraaz and she got noticed. The film was crime thriller and her talent was appreciated and she went to become a leading star of 60’s and 70’s. Her career was short lived as her husband tortured and she got separated from him. Even she later had affair with a new film producer named Jolly. But this did not give her any solace and mental peace too. Her film career never picked up and she faced shortage of money. It is true fame deserted her, and when she had asked for money from producers, they even had ditched her. This could be a reason that she died very early in mid-30s (her age not known). Industry sources claim that her career did not pick up and she led a frustrated life. She came to Mumbai after Ravi had introduced her to B R Chopra. Before making her debut in film, she was active in All India Radio. She actually belonged to Punjab and got married to a millionaire and became a native of Kolkata. She had two children even. It is after marriage she came to Bollywood. After success of Hamraaz, she became a star overnight.

When she was ruling Bollywood, her parents deserted her and even her in-laws did not like the concept of her joining films. Her own family member mistook her foray into film world. It is said that even her in-laws did not allow her husband to own their property and disowned their son even as she got into films. That is why, she became the sole earner in family and as producers flocked at her door, she demanded a whooping sum of Rs 3 lakh per film. She ruled silver screen with her screen presence. Later on, many of her films had flopped and she ran short of money again. Due to shortage of money, she left then the polished bungalow in Juhu where she was living and led a modest life in suburb Mumbai. Her husband took to alcohol, and he even tried to negotiate her( the actress) for money with small producers. This finally ruined her film career and destroyed her young life and even devastated her family . She died on August 22, 1977. She acted in a film Guddi which had Jaya Bhaduri in the cast.
