Kedarnath was a renowned Hindi language poet of the country. On April 1, 1911, Kedarnath was born in the Bundelkhand region of the present-day Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, in the village of Kamasin in the Banda district. He earned his B.A. and L.L.B. degrees, and in 1938 he started working as an advocate in Banda. However, Hindi literature was his first interest, and he made significant contributions to it. He belonged to the Pragatisheel Lekhak Sangh, a group associated with the socialist Progressive Writers Movement. Russian, German, and English translations of his works exist. Kedarnath Agarwal received the Soviet Land Nehru Prize in 1973 as thanks for his achievements. In 1986, he was presented with the Sahitya Akademi Award. He received an honorary doctorate in literature (D.Litt) from Bundelkhand University in 1995.

Additionally, the Mythili Sharan Gupta Puraskar (1990–1991), the Tulsi Puraskar (1986), the Hindi Sansthan Uttar Pradesh Puraskar (1981), and the Sahitya Vachaspati Manad Upaadhi were awarded (1990). Agarwal was active in a number of literary and educational organisations. For many years, he presided over Arya Kanya Intermediate College. He was connected to Kamasin village's Vinoba Bhave College, which is where he was born. Additionally, he presided over the regional bar association in Banda for a whole year. Along The River Ken, The Inheritance, When We Are No More, Play Not Thy Flute, Strike The Hammer, and numerous other of his well-known poetry are examples.

Also, Bambay ka Raktasnan, Gulmehndi Pankh aur Patwar, Aag Ka Aayeena, Anhari Haryali, Khuli Aankhein Khuli Daine, Pushpadeep, Kahein Kedar Khari Khari, Apoorva, Mar Pyar ki Thapein, Yug Ki Ganga, and numerous other well-known works are among his published works. His wife was Parvati Devi. Two daughters and a son were born to the marriage. On June 22, 2000, the poet passed away. A foundation called "Kedar Shod Peeth" was established to honour Kedarnath Agarwal's literary accomplishments. The "Kedar Samman" is given each year to a single author who has made remarkable achievements to literature.
