Hindi Poet Sharad Joshi

Sharad Joshi is an Indian poet, writer, dialogue writer and scriptwriter of Hindi cinema and television series. He was born on May 21, 1931. In 1990, he received the Padma Shri award. He was born and raised in the Maharashtra city of Ujjain. Sharad Joshi met and married Irfana Siddiqi in the late 1950s while writing for newspapers and radio in Indore. Sharad Joshi is a satirist who has authored numerous satirical articles about political, social, cultural, and economic issues. Billiyon ka Artha Shastra, Sahitya ka Mahabali, Buddhijivi, and other essays are among his works. Joshi was also a satirist who authored plays. Yatra Tatra Sarvatra, Parikrama, Tilasm, Raha Kinare Baith, Yatha Sambhav, Dusri Satah, Yatha Samay, and many others are among his novels and essay collections. Apart from being a poet, Joshi had also been working as a dialogue writer for numerous Hindi films such as Chhoti Si Baat (1975), Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin (1979), Chorni (1982), Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin (1991), Udaan (1997), etc.

However, Joshi had also worked for hindi television serials as a dialogue writer. Some of the TV serials for which he worked were Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi (1984), Vikram Aur Betal (1985), Daane Anar Ke (1994), Yeh Duniyan Gazab Ki (1990s), and others. The state of Madhya Pradesh has established a "Sharad Joshi Samman" award in his honour, which is granted each year to persons who have excelled in the field of literature. It comes with a monetary prize of Rs. 51,000 as well as a citation. In 2016, his daughter Neha Sharad created 'Shradotsav,' a literary and theatre festival that includes performances and a book fair to honor her father's work.
