Roopa De Choudhury

Roopa De Choudhary is a filmmaker, producer, and content developer based in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She has studied Bachelor of Arts in Communication at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, United States. She started her career in 1999 as an Editorial Coordinator at the Curious Pictures in New York Click to look into! >> Read More... . In 2001, she started working as a Production Coordinator for K2 Pictures and worked as a coordinator for Asylum (short film), Firesign Theater, and Pardons & Parole HBO Special.

She also worked as an assistant coordinator for the Mark Twain Prize Award Show and assistant producer for A Decade Under the Influence. In 2002, she started working as a Case Worker at the NY Asian Women's Center and worked as a caseworker for the community members who were affected by the September 11th disaster. By assessing their needs and advocating with Government and private agencies to help clients access financial assistance, legal referrals for immigration issues, and mental health referrals.

Roop made her debut as a producer in 2003 when she produced an independent documentary called Lest We Forget which was premiered at the South Korea Human Rights Festival, Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, One World International Festival in Prague, San Francisco Asian American International Festival, and New York Asian Cinevision. The film was also nominated for the Silver Wolf Award for Best Documentary at IDFA. Then, she produced another short film called Aristide: And The Endless Revolution in 2004 under the banner of Baraka Productions. It premiered at the New York Video Festival (Film Society of Lincoln Center), Vancouver International Film Festival, RIDM Montreal, IDFA Amsterdam, Alliance Cine in Paris, and in Buenos Aires.

The documentary was also nominated in Amsterdam for the prestigious Amnesty DOEN Award. Thereafter, she became the Vice President of the Content Studio at the Disney Star India to develop and launch Disney+Hotstar's first original 3d animation series called 'Legend of Hanuman' in January 2021 and season 2 of 'Legend of Hanuman' in August 2021. She also served as the head of an in-house department at Star India and led a senior team of talented and creative professionals to provide creative inputs into all aspects of execution for content on Star India's Hindi entertainment channels.

She also managed the casting, sound design, styling, production design, and other aspects. Roop also works to raise awareness about social issues including Animal Welfare, Child Welfare, Civil Rights and Social Action, Disaster and Humanitarian Relief, Economic Empowerment, Education, Environment, Health, Human Rights, Poverty Alleviation, Science and Technology, and Social Service. Moreover, she is highly skilled in making feature films, communication, film production, video production, photography, broadcasting, media production, screenwriting, etc.
