Ishrat Sultana was born in Delhi in 1906. She was popularly known as Bibbo. She started her acting career in 1933. Ishrat worked in Hindi and Urdu cinema. She has done acting for many eminent directors like A.P Kapoor and M. D Bhavnani before moving to Pakistan, following the Partition in 1947.

Bibbo even became the first female music composer of India and she composed music for Adal-e-Jahangir in 1934 and Qazzak Ki Lakdi in 1937. Bibbo worked in over 30 movies before leaving India. Her acting was praised by a journalist, Pitambar Jha in 1934 in his article in a Hindi Magazine called as Chitrapat.

After shifting to Pakistan following the partition, Bibbo did approximately 12 films between the years (1950-1966). Bibbo won Nigar Awards in 1958 for the film Zahr-e Ishq, produced by Sultan Jilani and Khursheed Anwar, featuring Habib, Yasmin, Neelo and Musarrat Nazir in the movie made under the banner of Select Pictures.

Bibbo did many films like Jhoomar (1959), Dopatta (1952), Ghoonghat (1952), Fanoos (1963) and Ghalib. Her last film is considered as Armaan in (1966). She got married to Khalil Sardar in the year 1930, the director of Adal-e-Jahangir. The last days of her life were considered miserable and brutal and she died of Tuberculosis on 25 May1972 in Karachi.
