Hindi Singer Sadhana Sargam

Sadhana Sargam is a playback singer of Indian cinema who predominantly now sings in South Indian and Bengali films. She debuted in Bollywood as a singer and has done playback singing in many Hindi films. She had initial training under her mother Neela Ghanekar, who was a classical singer too. Born as Sadhana Ghanekar in Mumbai on March 7, 1974, she changed her name to Sadhana Sargam on advice given by Kalyanji Anandji, who had promoted her singing career.

Sadhana has sung in many Indian languages for films, TV series and music albums. She is the only Indian playback singer who has sung in more than 24 Indian languages and perhaps the only North Indian singer to win a National Award for singing a South Indian film song. 

She is a trained singer in Hindustani classical music that is why she could render south Indian film songs with ease. Be it Hindi, Tamil, Telugu or Bengali, she is comfortable singing in almost any Indian languages. She is also the favorite singer of AR Rahman who utilised her golden voice for few of his compositions. She is famous for her song 'Saat Samundar Par’ which is still popular today among listeners. In mid-2000's she tried her hand for Tamil playback singing. 

She became a very much successful playback singer in Tamil movies, and she received even her first national award for a song ‘Pattu Solli’ which was composed by maestro Ilayaraja for Tamil film Azhagi. The singer remains grateful to the maestro for giving her chance to sing such a beautiful melodious song. Some of her melodious Tamil songs are  "Amma Un Pillai", Sutri Varum Bhoomi, and En Nenjil.  She also had a privilege of doing playback singing for AR Rahman for films like Water, where she had sung three melodious songs (Aayo Re Sakhi, Piya Ho, and Naina Neer). 

Besides the song Saat Samundar, she is also quite famous for songs such as Neele Neele Ambar Par( Kalakar), Pehla Nasha( Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander), Tere Umeed Tera Inerzar (Deewana, O Palanhare Lagaan), Ahista Ahista (Swades) and many more. She is one of the few Indian musicians who could surpass the expectations in her renditions of  songs of A R Rahaman and that is why she became the most popular singer in Tamil cinema giving playback for Vidyasagar and IIlayaraja. She has songs over 15,000 songs in all Indian languages.
