In his family, he has a brother named Hardik. Swagat completed his education at the Government Higher Secondary School, Sirohi. He did his master's degree in Electrical Engineering from MBM College of Engineering, Jodhpur. After graduation, he had the opportunity to audition for A.R  Rehman's show “Arrived”. During the auditions for "Arrived", Swagat sang Sonu Nigam's song "Abhi Mujh me khin". AR Rehman was mesmerized by his distinctive voice.

Swagat Rathore's best performance came in episode 8 when he played 'Kya Karoon'. He managed to get noticed by A. R. Rahman during his performance. A. R. Rahman said, "Kya Karoon by Swagat Rathod was a masterpiece" and appreciated it. After surviving through 14 episodes of the show, Swagat was chosen as the winner.
