Born on August 22, 1915, in Calcutta (Kolkata), Sombhu Mitra was an Indian movie and stage on-screen character, recite, director, writer and an Indian theater identity. He is the son of Sharat Kumar Mitra, who is an employee at the Geological Survey of India and Satadalbasini Mitra. He had six siblings and Sombhu was 6th among them. He began his education in Chakraberia Middle English School and later proceeded to the Ballygunge Government High School in Calcutta, where he created spirit perusing Bengali plays and got to be distinctly dynamic in school shows. He was regarded with Kalidas Samman Honour by Madhya Pradesh Government. He received the certificate of merit in 1956 for Ek Din Ratri as the best feature film in Bengali. Sombhu Mitra left the world on May 19, 1997, in Kolkata. The legendary artist is considered as the pioneer of theater in Bengal. He was constantly mindful of the capability of the indigenous types of dramatization and his works reflected society and exhibited the victory of humankind over realism.
