He was born on August 22, 1982, in Mumbai. His father, Karan Kapoor is a business person who lives abroad, and quite unfortunately, he lost his mother at his early age. His father added their middle name, Karan to his name to avoid confusion of their names. After watching a Steven Spielberg’s film when he was 13 years old, Kunal dreams of becoming a director someday. Kunal is a self-confessed lover of photography, editing photos and he is also a travel freak. Travelling means so much to him, as it means a lot of learning and experiences. He dreams to go to places like Patagonia, Masai Sara, and Bhutan. He also wants to go abroad to be closer to a whole new culture and set of people. He is known for his gags and funny incidents with his co-stars.

He was introduced as a child star in the then popular serial, Rajini. He was then called to act in the modern serial Remix on Star One channel in 2004 to 2006 and played as Varun in the serial, a nerd who stammered a lot. He then played a happy army person, Cadet Yaduvansh Sahni in the serial Left Right Left that was aired on SAB TV. With this show, he dug his feet deep into the TV world. He then played the role of Angad in Mann Ki Awaaz Pratigya on Star Plus. Following the success of these serials, he was called upon to play the role of Mohan Bhatnagar in the two seasons of Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha. From this series, he became very famous and took him to the peak of success.
