Kruttika Desai is a popular theater artist, who rose to fame through the TV Series “ Buniyaad Buniyaad is an Indian drama series which was broad >> Read More... ,” which was telecasted in 1986 in the National Channel Doordarshan. She is not only the best actress but a social activist too. She says that Theater was her school, which educated her entire nook and corner of acting. Kruttika says, “Theatre was my learning school...my discipline, my confidence, my growth all happened there, though I was studying then and it was a hobby only... and for the extra spending power... but it was my Buniyaad,! I wanted to pursue psychology and I did finally finish my M.A. in psychology but did not do my Ph.D. Buniyaad shot me to levels of fame that I had never contemplated.” When asked about the best medium of performance, a theater or cinema or TV Series, the experienced artist said, “All three mediums have their own lure...theatre for the thrill of a live audience and all its other magic, small screen for its instant fame through millions seeing you every day in their homes and feeling you are a part of their daily lives and discussions and the silver screen for its canvas and detailing and exclusivity and larger than life magic!

All three require different approaches in your style of acting and all are enjoyable to their differences.” Kruttika is a member of Akanksha and has been serving the society for years. Kruttika feels satisfied when working for Akanksha. She says, “Akanksha is an NGO for underprivileged children that I worked with for  a long time training children in acting and putting up musical productions as a director, involving 100 + children..... from all the work I have done, this was the most soul satisfying.” Kruttika was just 18 when she was working on the TV Series, Buniyaad. She shares her experience about Buniyaad with us. Kruttika says, “When I started doing Buniyaad I had already done theater and a serial, Air Hostess.  So, I was trained and a bit confident with acting but Ramesh sippy was the best director to have at that stage. He fine tuned whatever I had learned and taught me so much about the camera, angles lighting etc..most of the craft of the business.” She had been one among the talented bold women in the industry. Kruttika shaved her head for a TV Series.

When asked about her bold attempt, she says, “Yes it is a bold step for a woman to let go of her 'crowning glory' but I had done so much glamorous stuff, for so many years. I was then ready to experiment. Pinto Guha, the producer, an old friend, suggested it as the role was of a widow from a place where they shave the head of widows. I was very excited at the opportunity. I spoke to my daughter husband and mom. I thought they would be upset, but they were equally excited, if not more. It was a liberating experience to say the least.” She is also proud of the present generation youth. Kruttika says that they have a lot of exposure. The younger generation artists have a lot of confidence and talent, states the beautiful star. Kruttika loves to act in any language, as each would have its own flavor. She likes to do Bengali films, and also says that she is partial to European cinema.
