Ragini Shah is a renowned Indian actress who rose to fame after bagging the role of Dugba on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hindi soap, Saraswatichandra on Star Plus channel. Her family is from Mehsana but the actress was born and raised up in Mumbai. Ragini is a known face to the Gujarati industry; she has done over 50 Gujarati films and received six state awards, four of which are for the Best Actress Awards and two are for the Best Supporting Actress Award. Aside from working on Gujarati film festivals, she is also a director of television documentaries and short films.
Later on, she quit the Gujarati industry since she cannot find anything new with the roles and scripts she was in and then, she moved back to Mumbai. From there, she donned Hindi television serials and perform at the Prithvi Theatre. Subsequently, Sandip Patel offered her the main lead role in the Gujarati show, Moti Baa which was aired on ETV Gujarati. Initially, she was hesitant to do the role and asked the director to wait until she finalized her decision; but the writer, Kaajal Oza Vaidya called her and inform her that she was the one who has written the story. Since she was impressed with the books of Vaidya, she immediately agreed to appear in the show. The brilliant actress is also part of the Gujarati film, Harun Arun under the direction of Vinod Ganatra in 2009. The film won six international awards and Audience Award in Freeze Frame Film Festival in Canada.
Ragini made her debut in the epic historical drama serial, Chanakya in year 1988 on DD National, where she played the role of Chanakya’s (played by Chandraprakash Dwivedi
) mother. She went on to work as Rashmi Shekhar Nanvati in the Hindi serial, Ek Mahal Ho Sapno Ka on Sony TV in 1999. In 2001, she bagged the role of Mrs. Janki Bhimani on Zee TV’s Chandan Ka Palna Resham Ki Dori. Then in 2002, she appeared in the popular drama series, Aati Rahengi Baharein
on Zee TV. In 2008, she was starred in the drama series, Mera Sasural
on Sahara One. She was also part of Sphere Origins’ Zindgi Ka Har Rang…Gulaal as Maasa, the mother-in-law of Bhabo who loves wearing jewelries, followed by her appearance as the strict and dominating Maasa in the highest-rating television soap, Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus.
Ragini was married to his co-actor and director Deepak Gheewala
who worked with her in Gulaal and Gujarati shows like Jo Jo Moda Na Padta, Grahan and more.
