Simmy Joseph

Simmy Joseph is an Indian writer, director, producer, and activist. His hometown is Alleppey (Alappuzha), India. He studied at St. Aloysius College, Edathua. Then, he completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi (2004 – 2009). In March 2013, Simmy Joseph established Initiative Films in Delhi to make films on politically & socially relevant themes. He has developed a keen interest in pursuing a pan-Indian & international outlook in selecting themes & issues for his movies.

In 2008, Simmy Joseph authored "The Art of Satyagraha,” based on the philosophical background of Gandhism. The following year, he scripted the screenplay, “The Messiahs,” on the Jewish Guerrilla warfare against Romans. His other project is a Hindi-language political thriller, "Teesri Duniya," set in the backdrop of youth politics in 2019. He also worked in an English film, "God Is A Woman," which narrates the story of an American Youth who visits India in search of India's spirituality. His ambitious project was "Pataliputra.”

Simmy Joseph's first documentary was "A Documentary About Kuttanaadu," which was based on the environmental disaster that happened in the agricultural bowl of Kerala (Kuttanadu). As a co-producer, he worked on the award-winning short film "Abdulla's Arc," directed by Robin under the banner of Initiative Films. He directed his debut film in 2022. As a writer, producer, and director, Simmy Joseph has worked in a Hindi & Marathi film, “Anya The Other,” in 2022.
