Srinivasa Krishna Iyengar Bhagwan, well-known as S K Bhagwan is known for his work as a Film Director, an actor, and a producer. S K Bhagavan was born on 3 July 1933, in Mysore, which used known as Kingdom of Mysore, British India at that time. He along with Dorairaj directed over 55 films in Kannada, most of which stars Rajkumar and was Blockbuster hits. The duo of both of them was known as Dorai-Bhagavan. He completed his schooling from Bangalore High School. He was keen on acting and was a part of Hirannaiah Mithra Mandali at a very young age. He started his career as an assistant director in 1956 in the movie Bhagyodaya, directed by Kanagal Prabhakar Shastri. He, later on, directed his own very first movie along with M.C. Narasimha Murthy. The name of the movie was Sandhya Raaga which was released in 1966.

Later, he directed “Jedara Bale”, along with Rajkumar as a Director Duo Dorai-Bhagavan. They were the first directors who made James Bond style movies in Kannada. Then this duo worked together to make some more blockbuster hit movies. He was born on 24th Novemb >> Read More... and Lakshmi. In 1968 SK Bhagavan and Dorairaja, directed Jedara Bale, starring Rajkumar, Jayanthi, K.S. Ashwath, Narasimharaju, and much more. The duo then directed “Kasturi Nivasa”, in 1971, starring Rajkumar, K.S. Ashwath, Jayanthi, and Aarthi. In 1977, they directed Giri Kanye, starring Rajkumar, Jayamala, and Vajramumi.

In 1994, when Dorairaj died, S K Bhagavan decided to stay away from the silver screen. The last movie he directed was Mangalaya Bhandana in 1993, with Dorairaj starring Maharishi, Ananth Nag, and moon Moon Sen. The duo together directed over 30 movies starring Dr. Rajkumar, which clearly defines the mutual understanding between them. S K Bhagavan won “Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award” in 2017. This award is given by the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy to the film personalities for their contribution to the Indian Cinema. This Dorai-Bhagavan duo also won Puttanna Kanagal Award from Karnataka state government in 1995-96 and also an inaugural Dr. Rajakumar Souhardha award in the year 2010. He has stayed away from the direction life since he announces his retirement and is currently the principal of Adarsha Film Institute.
