Malayalam Director Lal Jose

Best known in Malayalam cinema, Lal Jose is a film director and producer. He was born on 11th January 1966, in Thrissur district of Kerala. Lal started his career in the film industry as an assistant director to Kamal. In 1998, he made his directorial debut with the film titled Oru Maravathoor Kanavu. His other notable works include Classmates, Immanuel, Meesa Madhavan, Neelathaamara, etc. amongst many others. His parents are Jose and Lily and he finished is schooling from NSS KPT School and NSS College. He has two daughters with his wife, Leena. His daughters are Irine and Catherine. After he had finished graduation, he went to Chennai to pursue his goal of being in the film industry.

There he assisted Kamal and later went on to work with him on 16 films. He also worked as associate director with the established directors like Harikumar, Nizar, Lohithadas and Vinayan. His directorial debut in 1998 received immense appreciation, and that led to his popularity. In 2000, he directed his next film called Chandranudikkunna Dikhil, followed by Randaam Bhavam in 2001, both of which were critically appreciated. Critically appreciated and a box-office hit, the film made the actor Dileep a superstar. His following film Pattalam was an average whereas Rasikan was super hit. In 2005, the same year as Rasikaan, Lal made another film titled Chanthupottu featuring superstar Dileep. The success of this film took Lal's career to great heights. Achanurangatha Veedu in 2006, however, it was not well received by the audience.

His next film Classmates, released in 2006, put the audience in a frenzy. It broke all records of Malayalam cinema. It was the highest grossing film of that industry, until the release of Twenty:20, two years later. His next films Arabhikkatha, Neelathaamara and Kerala Café, were all successful at the box office. Lal Jose then became a judge on Vivel Active Fair Big Break on Surya TV. The debut movie of his production house LJ Films happened with Diamond Necklace, which was critically appreciated as well as well received by the masses. Lal is a project director of Celebrate Keralam, an initiative to provide all artistes with a platform to give something back to Kerala. Lal Jose's films have received several awards in various categories like Kerala State Film Award for Best Popular Film and Best Director, Asiavision Award for ArtisticMovie, Asianet Film Award for Best Director and also South Indian International Movie Award for Best Director.
