Malayalam Movie Actress Abhija Sivakala

Born in the small town of Idukki in Kerala, Abhija Sivakala might be a new name for many, but she is a known personality on the artistic pedestal. Having graduated in Fine Arts in Trivandrum, Abhija Sivakala found her passion later in life. Sivakala is a prolific actor in Malayalam Industry having played various roles to perfection.

Her name was successfully given for the Award for Best Supporting Actress in Malayalam movies for Filmfare. She is also a well-known dancer. Her name is engraved in the field of theatre as well. She has played a part in 'Once Upon A Time’, a transnational play starring Francoise Calvel in the lead, a French artist of International repute. She balanced her life as an animator on one end and as an actor on the other end. She moved to Bangalore in 2003, in search of better opportunities in the field of animation and design.

Having found the job, she explored various other vocations. While working with an IT company in Bangalore, she acquired a taste for dance and learned Classical dance forms as Kathak and Odissi. She also got trained in contemporary dance form in Banglore. Having honed her skills in dancing as well as designing, Abhija Sivakala decided to go freelancing and left her job in 2009. As if planned by Providence, she was offered to lead Macbeth in Abhinaya Theatre Research Centre, playing the role of Lady Macbeth.

After this performance, she worked with a Chilean director, Elias Cohen. Having got in contact with a rich cultural diversity, Abhija gained recognition and fame along with a rich exposure to Latin American art while working under the supervision of Elias Cohen. She continued working with Abhinaya and staged several plays upon her return to Kerala until 2011. The next milestone for Abhija was Malayalam movie Industry. She debuted as a supporting member of movie Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi in 2013.

The movie was directed by Sameer Thahir and was inspired by Motorcycle Diaries which depict the life of Che Guevara. The film enjoyed a decent reception. After her debut, she contributed as supporting actor in various other Malayalam movies as Njan Steve Lopez, Lukka Chuppi, Seconds and Love 24x7. Eventually, her acting experience coupled with her dancing got her the breakthrough as a lead in Sanal Sasidharan's Ozhivudivasathe Kali in 2015, a crime mystery about the story of five friends which won the Film Award for Best Film in Kerala State.
