Recently, she changed her name to Aswathy as per the advice of an astrologer in Kochi; the astrologer stated that she should change her name to something that starts with letter A. Vinutha used her real name since it starts with letter A. Initially, she worked as a model and has done several ads for different brands including Pothy’s Textiles. It was always her dream to become an actress. Though she hailed from Karnataka, she is determined that she will not do any Kannada film because she wanted to stay as a normal being in her state, without being noticed as an actress. So after her appearance in a song sequence of the Kannada action-drama film, Appaji in 1996, she entered Mollywood.
