Kattassery Joseph Yesudas shortly called as K J Yesudas is an exceptional Carnatic singer and playback singer in Indian Cinema. Born on Jan 10 in 1940, he is fondly called as Gana Gandharvan and Dasettan. He has set a record of recording more than 60,000 songs. He is born in a Roman Catholic family, in Kochi. His father was a great classical Malayalam musician. His first song was Jaathi Bhedam Matha Dwesham (music: M B Sreenivasan) recorded on 14 November 1961. This song is so close to Yesudas, that he signs it even today very often in any of the concerts. His journey started with this song. He got his first hit through a movie Bharya under the music direction of G. Devarajan. He made huge hit songs in Tamil and Telugu film industries as well. His first song in Tamil was in a film Bommai, where the music was composed by the very famous Music composer S. Balachander. He had set exceptional records in music industry. He stands as a winner of 43 state awards in all over India, 7 national awards for best singer which are completely unbreakable records.

In addition to all Indian languages, he also sang for languages like Sanskrit,Latin Malaysian, Arabic, Russian and English. People believe that he is blessed by god because of his soulful singing. During 1971, he missed his flight. Within few hours of taking off, the flight crashed in Madurai. He made his debut into Bollywood in 1970. He sang for a very famous movie, Jai Jawan Jai Kissan (1971). That was a great tribute paid in words. Mr. Yesudas made his presence felt worldwide as well. He received "Outstanding Achievements in Music and Peace" from UNESCO. He is very frequently called to attend the Carnatic music events around the globe, as an ambassador to represent Indian traditional Music.
