Sanjay Raut

Sanjay Raut is an Indian Politician, Writer, Journalist, and Film Producer. Sanjay Raut was born on 15 November 1961 in Alibaug in the state of Maharashtra. His father’s name is Shri Rajaram Raut, and his mother is Shrimati Savita Rajaram Raut. He also has a younger brother named Sunil Raut. Sanjay Raut graduated from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s College of Commerce and Economics at Wadala in 1983 with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce.

On 16 February 1993, he married Shrimati Varsha Raut who was a school teacher. Together, the couple has two daughters named Purvashi Raut and Vidhita Raut. Sanjay Raut began his political career in 2004 when he was elected to the Rajya Sabha as a representative from Maharashtra. During this tenure of five years, Sanjay Raut’s Parliamentary Committee assignments included being a Member of the Committee on Home Affairs and being a Member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Civil Aviation. In 2005, he was appointed as leader of the Shiv Sena. His other positions during this time included being a Member of the Parliamentary Forum on Youth in 2006, a Member of the Sub-Committee on Modernization of Prison Administration, a Member of the Committee on Commerce, and a Member of the Committee on Defence. 

Sanjay Raut was elected as a Member of the Rajya Sabha for a second term in 2010. This time, his Parliamentary Committee assignments included being a Member of the Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs, and Public Distribution Member. He was also a Member of the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Power.

In 2012, he became a Member of the Committee on Coal and Steel. Sanjay Raut was reelected for the third time in 2016 and became a Member of the Consultative Committee on External Affairs as a part of his Parliamentary Committee assignment. When the Shiv Sena split in 2022, Sanjay Raut joined the Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction and was also re-elected to the Rajya Sabha the same year for a fourth term. In addition to his experience in writing articles for Saamana for over fifteen years, Sanjay Raut is the writer of ‘Thackeray’.
