Thiyagu is a renowned Tamil actor who usually appeared in comedy films and has done different types of roles in the Tamil film industry. Thiyagu is the grandson of the Carnatic music violinist, Kumbakonam Rajamanickam Pillai from Tamil Nadu, India. 

He initially started his career as a protagonist in most of his films. He played important roles in the Tamil films, Oru Thalai Ragam in 1980 and Palaivana Solai in 1981. During the late 80’s until the early 90’s, he started essaying antagonist roles and became popular as a character artist. He also won several awards for his brilliant performances in many of his films. Some of Thiyagu’s films include Aagaya Gangai and Oomai Vizhigal. He also done a Kannada film entitled, Premaloka. During the 90’s, he appeared in films like My Dear Marthandan, Kizhakku Vasal Kizhakku Vasal is a Tamil serial that aired on the >> Read More... , Raasaiyya, Vanaja Girija, Dhinamum Ennai Gavani, Irattai Roja and Kumbakonam Gopalu where he played as one of the lead. Besides acting, Thiyagu have been part of the political party called DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) since 1983. But after 28 years of working, he quits and stated that the party did not recognize his hard work at all. He stated that the reason why he joins the abovementioned party list is because he got attracted to Kalaignar’s writings. Thiyagu often campaigns for DMK in all elections but the party did not discern it. During the centennial celebration of his grandfather, Karunanidhi, the chief of DMK, promised him to release a postal stamp on his grandfather’s honor. He also asked Karunadhi to name a street in Kumbakonam after his grandfather; however, Karunanidhi failed to do it so, Thiyagu decided to quit the DMK party in year 2011.
