She predominantly acts in Tamil cinema. Although she tried her luck even in a Hindi film which was a disaster. This actress was born in Mumbai on July 5, 1980, and her original name was Nagma Khan and she later changed her screen name as Mumtaj.

Thus, she is known to all as Mumtaj in many films. In 1999, she made her debut in a film of T. Rajendar and got an instant recognition. Her first film "Monisha En Monalisa" paved her way to stardom and there was no looking back for this actress. She was active in the industry till 2006-07 when she even got more than three or four assignments per year. Later, her assignments became less and lesser and she took a break from industry in 2010-2012. Although this actress cited the reason for her break was due to her physical illness, she made again a quick comeback after two years but never met with a huge response. Currently, she is doing either guest appearances and even supporting roles in films.
