Swaminathan Selvaganesh is the grandson of Padma Bhushan and Grammy Award winner T H Vinayakaram also called Vikku Vinayakaram, a Percussionist by profession. Vikku Ji plays Carnatic music with a pot called ghatam and is known to popularize the pot. Swaminathan Selvaganesh is the son of Percussionist who worked in Tamil language films like Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu released in 2008. Swaminathan Selvaganesh learned to play instruments from his grandfather at a very young age, and he reveals that his grandfather never spared him when he played a wrong note.

He did his first performance on stage at the age of twelve years at Siddhivinayak temple in Dadar, Mumbai. S. Selvaganesh says that he is proud to be a part of a great family and wants to bring more glories to them. He has acquired Konnakal in which he sings percussion syllables vocally in South Indian music. He believes that music is very powerful and a common language as he may not understand what other singers sing, but he can get along with them through his instrument and techniques. Swaminathan Selvaganesh, like his father, is known for mixing songs of different genres using a small Kanjira and making sure that it reaches out to the world.

His grandfather has taught him to play kanjira with devotion to bhakti and classical notes with a unique style, and he has learned that very well. He usually performs with his grandfather, and they have composed a band which includes his father as well ,and the three of them travel all over the world and win hearts of their audiences by performing Carnatic compositions. They were in the news headlines after a concert in November 2013 called Nirgun Naad where Vikku, Swaminathan Selvaganesh, and N Rajaraman mixed the Ghatam, Kanjira and Gethu Vadyam to showcase different forms of sound and music.

They say that music has no boundaries, either geographical or generic ones, and through this sound, they will connect with the feelings of the hearts and the people. They played shlokas sung during Kumbabhishekams at temples, also called Ganpati Thalanam, and this is a good track to flaunt the powers of Ghatam, Kanjira and Gethu Vadyam which is made up of two bamboos. Swaminathan Selvaganesh is known for his vocal skills.

‘Art and Artistes’, a show which is known for creating many different musical instruments and featuring over thousands of musicians over the sub-continent, posted S Selvaganesh’s life journey about his decision of taking up music as a career and his other journey as of now. He is going to reach great heights same as his grandfather and father.
