Padmini Prakash is a transgender woman. She works as a news presenter, performer, and campaigner for trans women's rights. On 15th August 2014, she became the first Indian trans person to lead a news program on “Lotus News Channel,” a famous Tamil channel. Padmini was born in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India.  She belongs to a strict Tamil family. She was disowned by her family when she was 13. They refused to acknowledge her gender identity. She had to leave her home. Padmini hasn't communicated with her family since then. She even tried suicide after leaving home but was saved by others. However, she completed her studies. She enrolled in a distance-learning correspondence course for a Bachelor's degree in Commerce. Due to financial issues, she was forced to drop out after her second year. Due to her gender identity, Padmini was also harassed and bullied.

In 2004, Padmini transitioned and married her husband, Nagraj Prakash. Nagraj Prakash was her long-time family friend. His family welcomed her in. She had to flee her home. Jaya is the couple's son. Her spouse, a jeweler, urged her to finish her schooling. He wished for her to join the IAS. He was unable to realize her ambition due to financial constraints. Padmini became the first Indian trans woman to host a television news bulletin on 15th August 2014, India's Independence Day. She hosted the 7 PM news bulletin on the “Tamil channel Lotus News Channel.” She became the first Indian trans woman to work as a TV anchor.

The television network began hunting for transgender news anchors after the landmark NALSA decision. The ruling gives transgender people in India to self-identify as male, female, or third gender, and any other rights and protections. “Lotus News” provided her with two months of voice modification instruction. Padmini is a classically trained dancer. She has taught Bharatanatyam in the past. She also appeared in Tamil soap operas and transgender beauty pageants. In 2009, she was titled “Miss Transgender India.” She was also crowned “Miss Transgender Tamil Nadu” in 2007. Rose Venkatesan praised Padmini Prakash in “Ippadikku Rose” on Star Vijay TV. She was the first transgender talk show hostess in India. Rose suggested Padmini for the “Lotus News” channel.

She enjoys her profession as it benefits both her and her community. She also gets to work in prime time. Her work as an anchor is outstanding. She has a feminine appearance as well. Her vocal modulation, pronunciation, and overall presentation are all excellent. Padmini's hard work has eventually paid off. Everybody loves her. Her colleagues, friends, members of the transgender community, and other media figures often praise her. She earned a significant boost in her new job. Padmini is finally free of the societal shame she carried her entire life. Like other members of sexual minorities, she has previously faced constant pressure, discrimination, and harassment.

Together, the couple adopted a boy named Jaya. Her jeweler husband gave her encouragement to finish school. Due to their financial difficulties, he was unable to realize his desire of having her become an IAS official.
