T L Maharajan

T L Maharajan is a renowned classical singer in Tamil Nadu. He is a devotional singer who showed his merit of devotion playback singing even in movies too. Born in Trichy, he is considered to be the grandson of C.T Raajakaantham, who has sung in many Tamil movies during the early period of cinema.

He is also the elder brother of Tamil playback singer, Dheepan Chakravarthy. Being a Viswa Brahmin caste in Tamil Nadu, he is closely related to M.K Thiyagaraaja Bagavathar. He is born to parents Trichy Loganathan & Rajalakshmi Loganathan on 9th March 1954. He is admired by classical singers who often hold 'kacheri' in towns, village, or even in small towns.

TLM showed his capability and talent in singing when he was just ten years old. He was seen singing in a stage play "Vallalar," and his booming voice was recognized. Thus, he got his first break in playback singing in the movie "Thiruvarutchelvar”. He was then given credit as 'Master Maharajan' because of his age. The film had singers like P. Susheela, T.M. Soundarajan. Music was composed by veteran K. V. Mahadevan. While one song '" Sadhuram Marainthaal' was a solo number, another number was "Pannier Mozhiyaal" was sung along with T. M. Soundararajan.

Another song 'Kadhalaagi" in the same movie had the voice of him and T.M. Soundarajan. After this film, there was no looking back for 'Master Maharaja'. Today, the singer has completed a half a century period in playback singing. He holds his place as the most prolific singer who has sung some unexpected number in movies. He has sung for A R Rahman for the famous track of 'Nee Kattum Selai' which was sung by him and Sujatha for the movie 'Pudhiya Mannargal'.

Another famous duet song was "Andhi Mazhai Megam" from movie 'Nayakan' was sung by T L Maharajan, P Susheela, and chorus which has the composition of Ilaiyaraaja.

From the movie, Indira was another song titled "Munnerudhan" which had the voice of T. L. Maharajan, Swarnalatha for music composer A R Rahman. Of late, TL Maharajan has been a Judge for many singing competitions programs worldwide. Some of his devotional private albums include 'Ayyappan Thunai ''Ganapathi Saranam,' 'Murugan Shanmugan,' 'Thulasi Malai' etc.
