Rajavel Nagarajan

Rajavel Nagarajan is a popular name in the world of Radio who is best known to his listeners as Love guru. Rajavel was born in Thiruthuraipoondi in Thiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu, on 15th July 1985. He completed his schooling from Town Higher Secondary School in Kumbakonam. During school days, Rajavel actively participated in extracurricular activities like elocution competition, and story writing along with studies. Rajavel initially aspired to become an Engineer, but situations made it impossible for him to enter into an engineering college. With minimal options leftover in hand, Rajavel decided to enroll in a teacher training institute in Thirunelveli with the hope of taking the engineering entrance exam the following year. But, during two years in the course, his dream of becoming an engineer gradually disappeared. After the course, he joined a school as a teacher and also applied for a correspondence course in B.Sc Mathematics.

In 2004, Rajavel moved to Chennai to work in a call center after taking up call center training. But he ended up selling sim cards as he had no choices left. Soon after, he realized that the job isn’t meant to be him, so he went to Tirupur to work in a dyeing factory for minimum wage. As always, he ended up quitting the job as he was not satisfied with what he was doing. Upon the insistence of his family members, Rajavel took up the teacher job in Akshara Vidyaashram School in Cuddalore. Following it, he also worked as an extracurricular activities coordinator in the Alpha group of Schools in Trichy. After all these jugglings between jobs, Rajavel eventually caught up with the desire to foray into cinema.

Rajavel auditioned for Hello FM’s radio jockey hunt and finally landed as an RJ in January 2008 on Hello FM, Trichy. He hosted the prime time game show Pallankuzhi. After four years, Rajavel moved to Chennai. It was when life took a turn for Rajavel Nagarajan. The radio jockey shot to fame in 2012 when he started hosting Radio City’s, Love Guru Show. The show made him a popular figure, and since then, there is no looking back for him. In recognition of his works, Rajavel received Ananda Vikatan Nambikkai Award 2019 and Galatta Nakshatra Awards 2019 as the Best Radio Jockey.

Other than radio, Rajavel has also worked as an assistant director, script and dialogue writer, and voice-over artist. He penned the lyrics for the song Anbulla Ghilli from the movie Porenu Nee Pona. He has also hosted the Vikatan Nambikkai Awards 2017, along with receiving an award. Rajavel owns a YouTube channel in the name Pesu Tamizha Pesu in which he discusses various social problems. He is the official voice-over artist for Colors Tamil Channel. Rajavel worked as an assistant director to Pandiraj in his movies. He got married in 2015 and has a daughter named Dhvarakaa.

In his decade long career in Radio, he has come across positions like the executive producer, programming manager, senior executive, assistant manager, media consultant, and freelancer. But he believes that whatever his position may be but his love for radio will never cease and will continue to be the same. Rajavel has also been the voice of the people by voicing out for issues like Jallikattu and LGBTQ.

Overall the years of juggling between jobs, Rajavel always followed his heart rather than compromising for the least. His magical voice and his Tamil prove why he is a crowd’s favorite.
