Viswanathan Anand is an Indian Chess Grandmaster, born in Mayiladuthurai on 11th December 1969. He made chess a reliable sport in India. Viswanathan Anand is the first Indian to win the World Junior Chess Championship dominating the chess world and won World Chess Championship five times. Vishy, Lightning Kid, and Tiger of Madras are the nickname of Viswanathan Anand. Viswanathan Anand's Father's Name is Krishnamurthy Viswanathan, and Mother's Name is Susheela. Viswanathan Anand completed his school in Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School. Later, Anand completed his college in Loyola College, Chennai.

Viswanathan Anand started playing chess from the age of six. At the age of fourteen, Viswanathan Anand won National Sub-Junior Chess Championship, and at the age of 16, the National Chess Championship. Viswanathan Anand is the first Indian to win the Grandmaster title at the age of 18. Viswanathan Anand is the first Indian to become a world champion when Russians dominated the Chess Championship. Viswanathan Anand won his first World Championship title in the year 2000. Anand won so many awards like Padman Bhushan, Arjuna Award, Padma Shri Award, National Citizens Award, and Soviet Land Nehru Award, and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award. Viswanathan Anand won the best Sportsperson of the Year award in 1995 and Chess Oscar in 1997, 1998, 2003, 2004, 2007, and 2008.
