Arumugam Mohanasundaram, widely known as Loose Mohan was a zealous Tamil actor, worked as a comic artist in more than 1000 films. Apart from acting wonderfully in Tamil movies, he has acted in four Marathi films and one Bhojpuri, Hindi and Tulu. Mohan was born on 8th February in Kanchipuram, Chennai. His zodiac sign is Aquarius.

He went to Madras at a very early age and made his first debut in the film Harichandra as P.U. Chinnappa’s son in 1944 which he also dubbed in his voice in the Tamil, Telugu and Kannada styles. He became extravagantly popular in the late 1970s and 1980s and acted as a comedian alongside the great legends Rajnikanth and Kamal Hassan. His most known and recent movies are: Azhagi (2002), Mappilai (1989), Kachchi Kali (1987) and Vasanthathil Oru Naal (1982) The great actor is also credited with propagating Madras Bashai, his unique style of speaking which was a dialect spoken in Chennai. His achievements as a comedian are commendable, and the most important breakthrough was in 1979 film Rosapoo Ravikaikari, starring Siva Kumar. This big break led him to act in more than a 1000 movies.

Later in 2000, he was awarded the prestigious Kalaimamani award – best in the arts award by the Government of Tamil Nadu. His acting career of nearly six decades was enough to know his astounding talents. His family shifted to Chennai when he Mohan was very young, and his father’s name was Arumugam, popularly known as ‘loose’ Arumugam has also worked in some Tamil films. The actor had three daughters Geetha, Revathy and Lakshmi and a son named Karthik. After this film, he was not able to act anymore due to his retrograding health. In October 2009, Mohan approached the city police commissioner’s office to complain about his son, Karthik for neglecting his deteriorating health. The Mylapore police mollified the actor and united him with his child. He was suffering from severe respiratory problems in the final days of his lifetime. Mohan was admitted to a private hospital due to the brief illness near his residence in Salai Street in Mylapore, and he died around 6.a.m in the morning on 16th September 2012 (84 years). Many Kollywood celebrities and politicians showed up to the funeral to pay last respects to the great actor, and we are sure that he shall remain in all our memories together making us smile as he did in all his great movies.
