RA Sankaran

Ramarathnam Sankaran was born 12 June 1931, an Indian stage and film actor and director,popularly known as Ra. Sankaran. Sankaran directed many Award-Winning Tamil movies such as Velum Mayilum Thunai, Kumari Pennin Ullathile, and many more. During the time he directed movies, he also acted in many Tamil films as a supporting character, Sankaran acted as a father, Bishop, Advocate, Church Father, Swamy and Judge.

Sankaran preferred a career in the film industry over academics, and with the help of his cousin Javar Seetharaman, he joined K. Shankar asdirector.From then, Sankaran never looked back. He became a prominent name in the Tamil Film Industry as an artist and an associate director.

His first film as a Director was “Onne Onnu Kanne Kannu,” which released in the year 1974. It was Bharat Raja, who forced Sankaran into acting, and after his success in acting as father, there was no looking back for him as he got many opportunities as a supporting role.

Sankaran met many prominent actors during his active years, and according to him, it was Jayalalitha, who was the most disciplined despite being young. Sankaran was last seen as an actor in the year 1999 in the film Azhagarsamy.

Due to age-related illness, Mr Chandramouli of Mounaragam fame passed away at his home on 14th December 2023.
