Shanmuga Sundaram, is a sought after actor till date. He was born in Chennai in a family who is into business. His entry into the film industry was purely an accident.

When he was studying in college, he had accompanied one of his friends who is also an actor. In that particular shooting, one of the junior artists did not perform well. At that time, the director told Shanmuga Sundaram to try acting that role if he is interested. To the surprise of many, he had done that role with efficiency, which earned him appreciation spontaneously. He also worked in Tamil theatre and then moving on to serials, he worked with a style that showed moderation rather than melodrama, something that was not very common among artists of his generation.

His voice is so unique that it is being imitated by all the mimicry artists in almost all functions, where mimicry is performed. Shanmuga Sundaram had the privilege of working with the legends like M.G.R and . He was one of the close friends of Kavignar Kannadasan.

Shanmuga Sunadaram’s role in the 1989 Tamil film, Karagattakaran was one of the movies, where his acting was well appreciated. His character in the serial like Annamalai, Selvi and its sequel, Arasi are some of his work with Raadhika Sarathkumar. He has worked with the renowned Indian filmmaker, , son of Gangai Amaren who is a close relative of Shanmuga Sundaram. Because of his dedication in acting and his appearance as a man next door, Shanmuga Sundaram is a well known actor among the serial fans and has become a familiar face for all of them.
