Tamil Vocalist Aishwarya Shankar

Aishwarya Shankar is a Tamilian vocalist. She was born in Kolkata, where she completed her schooling, and later shifted to Chennai for further music training. She has a clear focus on classicism in music. Most musically talented youngsters graduate in engineering, medicine, and accountancy but she decided to do her graduation in B.A.music then she decided to do her masters in upper-level in music. Aishwarya’s paternal grandfather was a fan of Carnatic music, and her doctor's father was a veena instrument player they have learned from Calcutta. Aishwarya’s mother also learned Carnatic music. In this environment, she also started learning music at the age of four with Indira Ranganathan, a reputed teacher in Kolkata for Carnatic music and instruments.

This continued for fourteen years, and then her family shifted to Chennai in 2008, where she got her music guidance under Vidushi Suguna Varadachari, a guru in Chennai. She is a recipient of the Government of India scholarship for advanced music training. She got reputed with many awards and titles in her life. When her father was pursuing FRCA, Aishwarya gave public concerts at the age of ten. Back in Kolkata she also did many shows, including two prestigious Sabha- South Indian Club and Rashika Ranjani Sabha. After she shifted to Chennai, she did numerous concerts in different cities and towns in India, including a show at Shanmukhananda Sangettha Sabha in Mumbai.

Some of the noticeable features of Aishwarya were the clarity of pathantara, clarity, and diction. Aishwarya boasts a record of winning prices in various sabhas. In an event conducted in Mylapore, she winced in nine events out of ten. In the same year competitions conducted by Narada Gana Sabha, she won twelve events out of fourteen. She won 21 prizes out of 22 at the Music Academy’s competitions in 2009. In 2010, she won the first prize in an inter-collegiate competition in Chennai with five Sangita Kalanidhi-s and a Sangita Acharya as judges. She also won the Sangeeta award in a hard competition held by R.R. Sabha, Tiruchi, in 2008. Aishwarya has won five tambura prizes at various events which include the Narayani Ammal Tambura Prize and Rajaji Tambura Prize of the Tamil Isai Sangam. She also learned Bharatnatyam for fourteen years but she focused on music.
