Aarudhra, who was also known as Bhagavatula Sadasiva Shankara Sastry was an Indian poet, author, lyricist, translator, publisher, dramatist, and a playwright who has worked primarily in Telugu Cinema. He was born in the Yelamanchili district of Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. After completing his schooling, he moved to Vizianagram to pursue his college education in 1942. He became a Band Boy in the Indian Air Force in the year 1943 and served for five years. He got influenced by Communism after interacting with individuals such as Ronanki Appalaswami and Chaganti Somayajalu. Later, he started working as an editor for Anandavani magazine after he shifted to Madras. In 1949, he began working in the world of cinema as a lyrics and dialogue writer. He was also an expert in Telugu Literature.

He is the nephew of well-known Telugu poet, Sri. He married K. Rama Lakshmi, renowned writer and columnist. Some of his notable writings include Tvamevaham (You are no other than me), and Samagra Andhra Sahityam (An Encyclopedia of Telugu Literature). Tvamevaham depicted the era of Razakar Movement in Hyderabad. During the movement, the Nizam inflicted atrocities son the people who wanted to overthrow him and welcome democracy. The Samagra Andhra Sahityam had been published by him in twelve volumes which held a record of Telugu literature from 9th Century CE to modern times. The series chronologically included Early and Chalukya Era, Kakatiya Dynasty, Padmanayaka Era, Reddiraju Era, Early Rayala (Vijayanagara) , Late Rayala (Vijayanagara), Nawabs, Nayaka Kings, Late Nayaka Kings, East India Company, Zamindari, and Modern.

Other poems written by him include Konnalamma Padaalu which was about the Second World War, America Intiti Payjaalu, and Sinivaali. Apart from writing, he has translated the works of various writers from different languages such as Veera Telangana Viplava Geetalu (From English), Vennela Vesavi (From Tamil), Kabeer Bhaavaalu and Batvaada Arudra (From Hindi). He has also translated the Tamil treatise Tirukkural into Telugu. Some of the famous song lyrics that he has written include Gayaalu-Geyaalu, Pailaapacceesu, Yensian Padyaalu, Yetikedadi, and Kondagaali Tirigindi. He has also written dramas like Udgeedha, Geyanaatika, Raadari Bangla, and Saaalabhanjikalu. In addition to this, he has to his name some crucial research works like Arudra Vyasaapeetham and Raamudi Ki SitaYemavutundi? (How is Sita Related to Ram?) In the research work How Sita is Related to Ram, he has broken down the origins of Sita, Hanuman, and Mandodari for a common man or reader. He has worked in over 30 movies as a lyricist, dialogue writer, a story writer and Adapted Screenplay like Beedalu Patlu (1950), The Train Click to look into! >> Read More...
