Leela Naidu was a notable Indian actress, who became famous for her acting in some English and Hindi films like Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke in the year 1963, The Householder, etc. Being the Femina Miss India, in 1954, was featured in a fashion and lifestyle magazine named Vogue in the World's Ten Most Beautiful Women's list. It was a prominent fashion magazine, in which she was listed continuously from the 1950s to 1960s worldwide.

She is very famous for her subtle acting style and stunning classical beauty. She was born in Mumbai. Her father was a famous nuclear physicist named Ramaiah Naidu, who hailed from the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. Out of the eight pregnancies of her mother, she was the only surviving baby. Marthe was a journalist and an Indologist. The freedom fighter and senior Congress leader named Sarojini Naidu was her aunt. She was married to Tilak Raj Oberoi when she was 17 years old, in 1956. He is the child of the founder of Oberoi Hotels, Mohan Sinch Oberoi. Tilak Raj was about 33 years old.

The couple had twin daughters who were named Maya, and Priya. They got divorced, and the custody of both the girls rested with Oberoi. Satyajit Ray planned an English film after getting impressed with her performance in this movie. The movie was named The Journey. Unfortunately, the film could not be made at all. Though, Naidu was considered for the character of Rosie in the film Guide in 1965; she lost the chance as she was not a trained dancer, which was required for the role. She then acted in the movie Baghi in 1964, which was her last film in Bollywood. She made a guest appearance in The Guru, which is a Merchant-Ivory film in the year 1969.

She died on 28th July 2009 in Mumbai, because of lung failure at the age of 69 after a prolonged intensive effect of influenza.
