Jwala Gutta is a world renowned badminton player who plays all her games left handed. She hails from the City of Pearls, Hyderabad in the state of Andhra Pradesh. She was born on 7th September in the year 1983. Having represented India in numerous international badminton circuits, Jwala won championships for more than 14 times till 2013. Jwala holds the credit to have brought fame for the doubles badminton in India, initially with Valiyaveetil Diju, her mixed doubles partner with whom she was placed at no.6 in the year 2010 BWF rankings. Jwala is one of the few woman athletes in the country, who has gained much popularity for her outspoken nature and successful career.

Jwala made India proud when she won gold in women’s doubles during the Commonwealth Games. Apart from this, her other feats include a bronze medal at Asia Championships for Badminton in 2014, and another bronze medal at the Thomas & Uber Cup in the same year. Born to a Chinese mother and a Telugu Hindu father in Wardha, Maharashtra, Jwala brought up in Hyderabad, Telangana. Jwala had initially a liking for tennis, but later in her life, she started completely focusing on badminton. She has also worked for numerous other social causes like anti-zoo and anti-tobacco campaigns. She has also taken up other campaigns like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Ice Bucket Challenge. In 2013, Jwala launched Indian Badminton League for school children in Pune.
