Urdu Writer Musharraf Ali Farooqi

Musharraf Ali Farooqi is a Pakistani writer and translator. He was born on 26 July 1968. He attended St. Bonaventure's High School and Model School and College in Hyderabad, Pakistan. He studied at the NED University of Engineering and Technology in Karachi but did not finish his course. His book Between Clay And Dust (2012) was shortlisted for the Man Asian Literary Prize. Another book- The Story of a Widow, was shortlisted for the 2011 DSC Prize for South Asian Literature.

The books The Amazing Moustaches of Moochhander the Iron Man and Other Stories (2011), Tik-Tik, the Master of Time (2013), Rabbit Rap: A Fable (2012), and The Cobbler's Holiday: or Why Ants Don't Wear Shoes (2008) are in his children's literature collection.  The Time of the Termites (2001), The Story of a Widow (2008), The Merman and the Book of Power (2019), and The Jinn Darazgosh (2010) are his other novels and Qissas. 

In October 2007, Modern Library published his highly acclaimed translation of Dastan-e Amir Hamza or Adventures of Amir Hamza by Ghalib Lakhnavi and Abdullah Bilgrami. His other translations include- Mouse Pickle (2012), The Beast (2010), Hoshruba: The Land and the Tilism (2009), The Adventures of Amir Hamza (2007), Rococo and Other Worlds (2010), and Three Sindhi Folktales (2014). Musharraf founded the publishing house Kitab in 2012 and launched an online Urdu Thesaurus in 2016. He also created an interactive storytelling and activity-based learning program- Storykit in 2016.
