This story is mainly based on Sangolli Rayanna, a brave warrior in Kittur Rani Chennamma’s kingdom. In any historical film, the battle scenes must be realistic to attract the audience. This movie’s battle sequences have been shot in Jaipur with more than a thousand artists, elephants and horses. The shot the battle sequence in a desert village called “Thula” for about 40 days. In order to make it look more realistic, fake body parts were designed by Rajastani artists.

The plot revolves around the story of Kittur Rani Chennamma’s kingdom’s brave warrior Rayanna who was ready to give his life for the kingdom and the queen. It all starts when Kittur Chennamma refuses to pay tax to the British Government. Enraged by this, the British Government decides to attack Kittur with their mighty army. Sangolli Rayanna is ready for attacking back but is waiting for his queen’s orders. But the queen won’t let him do anything before the British attack. In the first war, British Government gets defeated. In a hope of taking revenge, The British Government plan another attack and captures Kittur Rani Chennamma in deceit. Later, when Rayanna is still trying to build his army to get Chennamma out and to make her sit on the throne back. But, British lies that Rayanna is dead, to Chennamma. Unable to believe this, she breathed her last in the prison. Is Rayanna able to defeat British with his army? Or is he going to bend down in front of the British Government? Is the climax of this movie.

Starring Darshan and Jayaprada in the lead roles as Sangolli Rayanna and Kittur Rani Chennamma, it has been a big hit at the box office. It is also the highest budget movie till date in Sandalwood. Its budget was rupees 30 crores and it collected the same amount within 22 days of screening in Karnataka. It is one of the movies which are a must-watch in Sandalwood.
