'Aachi' Manorama Thanks Kalai Thaai For Being Alive...! Tamil Article

Veteran actress ' Manorama Being called as Aachi, Manorama is strongly seeded >> Read More... ' has acted in more than 1,500 films and stage shows and is still enthusiastic about her profession, she considers each and every film she acts in as important. This is indeed a huge achievement when compared to the actors of today who seem to think that acting in just 25 films is a big thing. Her home is filled with yesteryear photos of hers- one receiving an award from a former governor, a picture with Kalaignar, one with Ulaganayagan, etc. and each picture holds a special place in her heart.

Aachi sits calm and composed, watching TV while recuperating from an illness in spite of which she spoke to a leading daily. She spoke about her life and journey in the cine field, the most important memories and about her upcoming work. She believes she was blessed by God to achieve so much and she also attributed her success to her mother who did everything for her when she was alive.

She spoke about her upcoming work for Singam-3 where she plays Surya’s grandmother and Peraandi. She mentioned how she had just refused a Malayalam film due to ill health, but then she had immediately regretted it as acting meant so much to her. When asked about the secret of her success as the rare female comedian even in those days, she gave Kannadasan all the credit.

It was he who launched her in 1957 in Maalayitta Mangai and this changed her life forever. The role was a comic one and he had full faith in her. He gave her confidence and also advised her that a heroine had a short career span while a comedian could go on and on. When asked if her film colleagues were still in touch with her, she replied in the affirmative and said that actor Sivakumar often visited her and Kamal Haasan Kamal Haasan is the most versatile actor that Indi >> Read More... also kept in touch.

She said that her mother had wanted her to be a doctor, but it was difficult in those days. She was proud that her grandson is a doctor. She proudly said that she had no regrets in life and wanted to be born as Manorama again in her next life, with the same mother. She considered her role as Baby Amma in Nadigan with Sathyaraj and Khushbu a memorable one. She also liked her role in Chinna Gounder with weird artificial teeth.

She seldom watches films these days, she only watches TV if she is bored. When asked about any unforgettable incident in her life, she spoke about her theater days. She used to act in dramas and stage shows in Madurai and Karaikudi. She was playing a minister’s role in Aandal Aval Aandal and the producer Rajendran told her to wear glasses for the role. The scene called for her to climb down 15 steps to the stage. She was given the glasses just before descending and this blurred her vision. She closed her eyes and somehow managed to climb down safely.

Had she fallen down, she would have died that day. She was in tears and profusely thanked Kalai Thaai for being alive and still in films!!
