Anurita Jha
has set an entirely different benchmark in the Hindi Film Industry by breaking the stereotype that highly educated girls don’t dream of becoming actresses. The 29-year-old BITS Pilani graduate debuted in Bollywood with her film Gangs of Wasseypur- I in 2012. She went on to become a part of the star cast in the second part of the movie too. The actress’s third film is in Maithili and is titled “Mithila Makhaan.” The movie is co-directed and produced by Bollywood actress
Neetu Chandra
, and also stars
Kranti Prakash Jha
in the lead and
Pankaj Jha
plays the antagonist.
The plot revolves around Kranti Jha’s character, which comes back to his village in Bihar from Canada after a long span of 23 years. He observes that his village has been drastically affected by the floods due to Kosi River and decides to stay back and starts a business of Makhana, which is an edible flowering plant and is believed to be auspicious. During his time in the village, he gradually falls in love with a village belle Maithili, played by Anurita. The film is the first Maithili flick of its kind not only because of being shot extensively abroad but also because Mithila Makhaan bagged the Best Film in Maithili National Award, a first time for any Bihar and Jharkhand cinema.
