Raima Sen Gets ‘threatening Calls’ For ‘Maa Kaali’

But why is Raima Sen facing this? ‘Maa Kaali’ is actually based on one of the darkest episodes of Indian history: The Direct Action Day riots. On 16 August 1946, the entire region of undivided Bengal was subject to atrocities that later paved way for the unfortunate Partition of Bharat.

Since the tragedy of 1946 is something not many Bengalis like to talk about, some are accusing the makers of encashing on the tragedy. However, only the posters have been launched, and yet a certain section of people are ready to not only label it ‘propaganda’, but also harass the artists involved. This has been witnessed in the case of films like ‘The Kerala Story’, ‘The Kashmir Files’, and even ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’, where irrespective of the quality of the film, some so called intellectuals are ready to indulge in cyber bullying.

However, Raima Sen is far from scared. She said that it is unfair of those people to pass on their judgment without watching the film first. According to her, the tragic events of August 1946 deserve to be portrayed on the bigger screen.
