in the lead role. The actor later came to be popularly known as Dr Vishnuvardhana. The interesting novels by Dr SL Byrappa as Thabbaliyu Neenade Magane, Naayi Neralu and Matadana were converted into movies and the novels as Gruhabhanga and Dhaatu came out as mega serials in television.
The award which is popularly known as the Nrupathanga award is made by the Bengaluru Mahanagara Transport Corporation which is located in the Kannada Sahitya Parishat. The central Kannada committee chose Dr SL Byrappa for the award this year in the presence of noted icon Dr BR Lakshman Rao, Vidwan Veeranna Rajuru, welfare department icon Vijaykumar Rai. The noted organization Kannada Sahitya Praishat announced awards for other noted icons also.
